For question H, I chose to write about option 2. The movie Divided We Fall is about the aftermath of 9/11 and the views of some Americans towards the Sikhism religion. This film focuses on the religious oppression of Sikhs. The attack on 9/11 shook up this nation, and unfortunately created a large scale fear that anyone with a turban is a terrorist.
The creator of this video drove 3000 miles to NYC. She goes from person to person and listens to their stories. The first story she came across was a gentleman heading to work the day of the attack. He had no idea what was going on and ended up running away from the scene. As he got further he was beginning to get threats and was being chased. He was being labeled as a terrorist because of his religion.
America has always been a melting pot and provided religious freedom for everyone, but the aftermath of 9/11 caused great fear which leaded to irrational behavior and revenge. This video was extremely difficult for me to watch. 9/11 is an extremely emotional moment in our lives. It is heartbreaking to hear stories of Americans turning on each other when we all should have been uniting as a country.
Can you believe that before much of American even knew what was going on in Manhattan, innocent individuals were being targeted and labeled as terrorists just because they had a beard and wore a turban? As the horrific events of 9/11 were playing out, didn't the 2 men that were chasing the man from the movie have more important priorities to attend to? I just can't comprehend it.
ReplyDeleteThe movie divided we fall exemplifies the phrase "United We Stand, Divided we Fall" and it is, like you said, heartbreaking to hear stories of Americans turining on each when we should have been uniting as a country. The aftermath of 9/11 is still present today and even I have to admit that I still get neverous when I see someone who has been labeled as looking like a "typical" terrorist at an airport. It is sad because these people are good people and are now thought of as something different because of the awful things that a small group of people have done. I hope this will change in the future.
